I took it in to the dealer while under warranty and they said that since they are chips that they won't cover it. I had to take the truck in to a dealer referred body shop to fix a spot where someone had keyed it and they looked at the paint and asked if I constantly drive behind rock trucks or something similar due to the amount of chipping. When I informed him that I do not and that it's from regular driving, he was shocked at how easily the paint chips on my truck. Something should be done to fix this problem because I definitely will not be purchasing anymore toyotas if this is the case." |

"Just weeks after buying my tundra, I started seeing scracthes everywhere. If I touched the truck in any way it scratches. I wash my truck one body panel at a time and rinse out my microfiber mit each time and make sure its clean, still it does horrible damage. All over my truck is scratched just from leaning on it... not rubbing. Ive had little bushes scracth it that never scracthed any of my other trucks. Ive got alot of scratches right down to bare metal and I have no clue how they even got there. My hood is peeling paint in alot of places from rocks... I dont ride close enough to anyone to do that bad of damage. " |

"This is my first new vehicle purchase and I am for the most part very happy with my 08 Pyrite Mica Crewmax purchase. My only problem with this truck is you got it, the paint job. Don't get me wrong its a beautiful color, but man is this paint fragile. I have 408 miles on this truck and have leaned against it a few times loading and unloading items from the side and have scratches that are very noticable from brushing against the side with blue jeans. For a truck with a 44,000 MSRP, you would think it would have a better quality paint job than this, this is BS. My 98 chevy original paint is much tougher than this. Toyota is going have to do better than this if they expect a repeat purchase from me. I realize certain chemicals have been banned from the painting process in the states, but we've got to do better with todays technology this shouldn't be happening." |

My 2007 tundra is only 10 months old and looks terrible.The marks wont polish out .It seems like their is not any paint on truck. Its shot already. I will have to pay for a complete paint job 7000 .00 just so I am not embarresed by my truck . My brother inlaw has a 2005 chevy silveraldo that is perfect. He laughes at me for buying toyota. My tundra is a far better truck but the paint is bad." |

Truck had about 260 miles on it new and there were multiple scratches on Passenger, Tailgate inside and outside and some scratches and paint chips on driver side threshold and front of truck. Dealer only wants to use touch up but I want it totally repainted. I did buy it brand new after all and expcect a new finish. I agree that the paint looks thin and very little clear coat protection." |

"Here's my soap box, 08' Tundra crew max an even 3000 miles on it. I noticed how easily the truck would scratch, literally you could lean against the truck and it would scratch. My son's soccer ball bounced against the truck leaving a soccer ball impression in scratches. The truck scratches when being washed with a terry cloth towel. As I was waxing it, paint chips were coming off the hood. At this point, I called Toyota directly about the paint issues, thinking my truck paint was defective or that the clear coat wasn't applicated to the truck. Of course, Toyota referred me to the dealership. The dealership gave me every excuse in the book, including: flying rocks (that defy gravity), "We paint five or six hoods a week just from driving them across the street," and finally, a truthful answer that they are going to do nothing about it. I won't name drop yet as this is far from over. Clearly I'm disappointed in the quality of the paint job and hope Toyota will step up and resolve this issue. Otherwise the truck drives great. (side note I googled this site the morning of my appt. I didn't know anyone else was having any problems with the paint.)" |

"I love my 08 tundra slate metallic. However, the first day I leaned on the truck to look in the bed and the decal on my t-shirt scratched the paint. I couldn't believed that would be possible. Was in Iowa visiting family and someone spun their tires on a limestone gravel driveway throwing rock up on my truck resulting in better than 30 chips and blemishes, some to the metal. I expect to see rust soon since my neighbor is having similar problems with her 07 sequoia where paint is chipping off from freeway miles. This is my first toyota product which I love except very disappointed in the paint quality. That's bad for someone who obsesses about his vehicle appearance. Please fix this Toyota." |

I've had the truck for about 7 months and the paint job on it looks like the truck is 5 years old, my chevy truck that I had for 7 years had a better paint job on it before I sold it. "I have a 2008 Tundra Crew Max 4WD truck in pyrite mica that is about 3 month old. The paint is very thin and scratches very easily. I have owned about 10 trucks of 5 different makes in the last 25 years, two of these additional trucks were Toyotas. The paint on the Tundra scratches easier than any painted surface I have ever worked around. Both of my previous Toyota trucks (a 1986 and 1994) which I still own, have much much better paint jobs. I expect that my Tundra at one year of age will have paint in worse condition than my 14 year old 1994 Toyota truck. This is unacceptable to the point that it is unlikely I will purchase another new Toyota vehicle. Not to mention the atrocious dealer service and lack of knowledge and integrity. After about 20 miles of highway driving, the spot under the gas can wore the paint off to the primer. I even put on a coat wax before I put the gas can in the bed. Very poor paint on this vehicle.
